| 10/6/2010 - Man Beaten During Latest Home Invasion Robbery | A local man was beaten on the head during a home invasion robbery on Lincoln Avenue in Live Oak Tuesday October 6th, LOPD Det. Sgt. Ron Shaw said.
Jorge Ruis-Almarez, 32, received a laceration to the head from a wooden handle, possibly from a shovel, when five intruders forced their way into his home at 423 Lincoln Avenue around 4:35 p.m.
Ruis-Almarez told police that he was eating when two men and three women ordered him to sit on the couch and demanded money.
“He refused and when they realized he wasn’t going to get any money one (male) hit him on the head,” said Shaw.
The five intruders then grabbed several jars of coins and fled on foot in an unknown direction.
Ruis-Almarez was treated at Shands Live Oak for non-life threatening injuries.
Shaw said that a trespassing incident at the Jiffy Store at Mussey Avenue and Duval Street shortly after the home invasion might be related, but doubts it.
“I’m not sure it’s involved,” he said.
The home invasion fits the pattern of previous such crimes here, in which members of the Hispanic community were targeted by African American attackers. More than 20 such crimes were reported in Live Oak in 2009. The five intruders in this case were all described as African American.
One male suspect is described as 16 to 25 years of age, 5’6” to 5’10”, 140 to 180 pounds wearing green shorts, a blue T-shirt, with a beard and short hair. The second male is described as the same age 5’8” to 6’1”, 165 to 205 pounds wearing a black T-shirt, black pants, a mustache and beard and short hair.
All of the females were described as 16 to 25 years of age. One was 5’2” to 5’5”, 95 to 110 pounds wearing a blue T-shirt and pants with shoulder length hair. Another was 5’5” to 5’10”, 100 to 115 pounds wearing a white shirt, black sports bra with shoulder length hair, and the last female is 5’6” to 6’1”, 100 to 115 pounds wearing a white T-shirt and pants with shoulder length hair.
Shaw said none of the suspects were said to be wearing masks, as was common with the other home invasion robberies.

| | 4/26/2010 - Arson Linked to Unsolved Homicide | Possible Arson Linked To Homicide:
Fear grips a local family after one member’s home was destroyed in a fire they believe was set to frighten them into silence regarding a recent homicide.
That threat, the resident believes, is in reference to knowledge others may think she has regarding the shooting death of Marvin Lewis O`Hara, who died March 27.
After taking her child to school, the resident returned to find her home on fire. "This has gotten too serious," the resident said. "Whoever is doing this thinks that we are getting too close to what we shouldn`t know."
Investigator Justin Bates of the Live Oak Police Department said the fire and the note are under investigation, and could not comment further.
However, the homeowner and family members were clearly shaken and in fear for their lives.
"Those who are doing this obviously have no respect for human life," Hale said. "I`ve talked to Williams and they are working around the clock on this."

| | 1/1/1900 - | Two men wanted in a McAlpin triple murder may not have strayed far, Sheriff Tony Cameron said Friday evening.
“I believe they are closer then we think,” Cameron said.
Suwannee County residents James Lindsey Howze, 38, and Lonnie Robert Munn, 47, are each wanted on three counts of first degree murder, and one count each of home invasion while armed with a firearm; conspiracy to commit home invasion while armed with a firearm; and conspiracy to commit first degree murder while armed with a firearm.
The pair is believed responsible for the murder of three McAlpin residents found shot to death in their 172nd Street home Thursday morning. The dead were identified as Joseph Militello Jr., 57, Nancy L. Militello, 68 and Angelo Rosales, 32. Rosales, who shared the residence, was the Militellos’ nephew.
They were killed execution-style, according to Cameron.
The bodies were discovered by an employee of the victims, who operated a business from the residence.
A third Suwannee County man, Keith Allen Hughes, 25, is in custody, charged with conspiracy to commit armed robbery in connection with the murders, Cameron said.
Hughes formerly worked on the Militelos’ farm, according to Cameron.
It is believed the three were preparing to sit down to dinner Wednesday evening when the intruders broke in.
Cameron said money was the motive for the crime.
“We feel like it’s a robbery, and this house was targeted,” said Cameron.
